Skeumorphic design was all about designer’s adding shadows and gradients to elements just to add to the visual appeal of the design without giving much thought into whether it was necessary or added noise to the design’s message instead of clarity.
Fundamentals of visual communication was something that most designer’s have missed out on as their learning curve soon was restricted based on the projects they got. There was a need to build well thought out interfaces as you did not want to overdo the design aesthetic which also came in tandem with the minimal design movement.
